How does it work?
To a small extent it’s really not that complicated... This is only the case because a single computer runs it all. However, running extension cords for nearly EVERY strand of Christmas lights definitely makes it more complicated. The Christmas lights used are normal boxes anyone can buy off the self at your local stores, which are powered by the extension cords running to the individual strands. There are a few boxes (controllers) which are all linked together and ultimately tie into a computer that controls everything. The shows, timing, and lights are all controlled by the computer, which at some times is sending out over 48 commands a second to individual strands of lights. The average show can easily have over 100,000 individual commands of which many are chosen and entered in manually by the programmer.
